The Wurl Ranch was homesteaded in 1932 by the son of Prussian immigrants, William "Willie" Wurl. Willie and his wife, Edith, had just been evicted from their family ranch a couple miles south in Colorado due to the Great Depression. Willie and Edith lived at the new ranch for fourty years. Various children and grandchildren have also lived on the ten remaining acres since then. Seven generations
have lived on the ranch or in the area so far.
